Dr. Lance Palmer specializes in tax planning and retirement planning strategies. His combined expertise in tax and retirement planning are integral to the optimal management of clients’ investment portfolios as well as retirement plan design.
His other work experiences include employment with KPMG, a large accounting firm, and working as a professor of financial planning at the University of Georgia for seven years. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM professional.
Dr. Palmer received his bachelor’s and MBA degrees from University of Utah and his doctorate degree from Utah State University. He is a co-founder of the University of Georgia (UGA) Family Financial Planning Program where he continues to teach courses in retirement planning and tax planning. He is a recipient of the University's Richard B. Russell Award for Excellence in Teaching and Engaged Scholar Award.
He spearheads a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in Georgia, which is supported by a collaboration between UGA and the Georgia United Credit Union. Students studying financial planning under his supervision complete hundreds of tax returns at no cost for low-income families in the local community each year.
He has co-authored over 25 scholarly publications in top journals in the financial planning field, such as The Journal of Consumer Affairs, Financial Services Review, Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning, Global Journal of Business Research, and Journal of Personal Finance. He currently serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Consumer Education and the Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning.
Dr. Palmer is a member of the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning, Academy of Financial Services, American Council on Consumer Interests, and Financial Planning Association.
