Our Financial Planning Process

We believe financial planning is a personal and lifelong process, not a one-time event. Our advisory team is here to help you plan for and reach future goals while also living life more abundantly today.

We leave no stone unturned. Our plans are tailored to your specific goals and needs. That’s why we make sure you’re actively involved in the planning process and follow a detailed set of steps along the way.

Consultation Meeting

We chat over coffee (or Zoom) regarding your needs and situation, while providing an overview of our process and services. And, along the way, we want you to ask as many questions as you have so you can feel confident as we move forward together.

Step 1

Investment Strategy and Goal Development

We develop and share investment opportunities to improve your financial plan and portfolio. We’ll walk you through the recommendations, so you can envision your future as our team gets to work planning for it.

Step 2

Presentation of Comprehensive Financial Plan

We present you with a tax-optimized cash flow and retirement plan, often outlining multiple scenarios so you can make the best decisions for you. Other areas of focus include education planning, short-term cash needs, net worth protection, and legacy planning.

Financial Planning Checklist

We sort through the noise for you and help you check the boxes on only the things you really need to do for your personal financial planning process. We provide a summary of the action items needed to implement recommendations, both previously presented and new.

Daily Monitoring and Unlimited Adjustments

Once your initial plan is complete, we’ll go to work monitoring it all. And, as life changes, we’ll be there for you to make any adjustments.

      Ready to Get Started?

Is your financial situation becoming more complicated? Are you missing out on growth or tax savings by self-managing your money? Are you itching to spend less time worrying about money and more time focused on the things that matter most to you?

If you answered yes to any (or all) of the above, we'd love the opportunity to get to know you and share ideas that will help you live your life more fully.

Scheduling your consultation meeting is quick and easy. The first step is completing a short questionnaire to help our team better understand your unique situation and needs. Don't worry, it should only take about 5 minutes.

Once your questionnaire is submitted, we'll reach out to find a day, time, and location (in-person or virtually) that works best for your meeting.

      More Questions?

During your consultation meeting, we want to get to know you while also sharing more about us. In case you have any additional questions before scheduling, here are a few more helpful details about our firm.

You can also book a discovery call with our Client Development team before requesting a consultation meeting or reach out to us directly any time.

      What are your fees?

We are a fee-only financial planning firm. That means our success is measured exclusively by yours. We do not sell third-party products or accept commissions — ever.

Our annual fee is equal to 1% of investable assets under management for the first $2,000,000 managed. The fee gradually decreases to 0.25% for assets above $10,000,000.

The management fee includes all ongoing, comprehensive financial planning and investment management services.

High-earners with investable assets under $1,000,000 will be charged a supplemental fee of $250 per month and must meet specific household income requirements ($150,000 for single households and $250,000 for married/joint households).

We do not offer an hourly fee schedule or flat project-based fee options.

What’s included with the annual fee?

Our management fee includes all ongoing, comprehensive financial planning and investment management services.  There are no hidden or incremental fees at our firm.

What are the minimum assets required to be a client at Elwood & Goetz?

We are best suited to serve clients with at least $1,000,000 in investable assets (excluding real estate) and who want to delegate all their financial planning and investment management.

If you have fewer than $1,000,000 in assets under our management, you can still work with our team by:

      • Surpassing an annual household income amount of $150,000 (single) or $250,000 (joint/married); and
      • Paying a supplemental monthly fee of $250

What is Elwood & Goetz’s client retention rate?

We are grateful to serve more than 500 households — and humbled to have an annual client retention rate above 99%.

Where is Elwood & Goetz located?

We have office locations in Athens, Georgia; Atlanta; Charleston, South Carolina; and Naples, Florida. However, our service model is not limited by our physical office space: we proudly serve clients in more than 35 states.

We are fully capable of developing and optimizing your financial plan wherever you are. And we often travel to visit clients across the country.

We offer both in-person and virtual meetings for our prospects and clients.

What does fiduciary mean? Is Elwood & Goetz a fiduciary?

Yes, Elwood & Goetz is a legal fiduciary. As an independent firm and fiduciary agent, we willfully accept a legal and ethical obligation to put our clients first — and to always serve their best interests.

That may seem like a no-brainer for a profession that manages clients’ finances (and for us, it always has been), but many wealth management firms aren't true fiduciaries. That means they may make decisions in their best interest — like maximizing profits or commissions — instead of yours.

We do not accept any commission or kickbacks of any kind — period.

Because we’re an independent firm, we are not bound to any specific investment funds or products. That means we’re always able to offer unbiased, evidence-based advice and select from the entire universe of portfolio options based on your unique situation and goals.

Deep to our core, we believe this is not only the best way — it’s the right way. And for us, it’s the only way.
